Mo(o)re on Bush

As for those who read Gg's comment about my remarks on Michael Moore's movie: in general I agree with her, in the sence that I think that there is a big difference between the American and European audience. My dear friend Gg sends me a great joke on George Bush that I cannot keep for myself, so here it is: ,,George Bush and Dick Cheney are enjoying a quiet lunch at a very fancy Washington restaurant. Their waitress approaches the table to take their order. She is young and very attractive. She asks Cheney what he wants, and he replies, 'I'll have the heart-healthy salad.' 'Very good, sir,' she replies, and turning to Bush she asks, 'And what do you want, Mr. President?' Bush answers, 'How about a quickie?' Taken aback, the waitress slaps him and says, 'I'm shocked and disappointed in you. I thought your administration was committed to high principles and morality. I'm sorry I voted for you.' With that, the waitress departed in a huff. Cheney leans over to Bush, and says, Mr. President, I believe that's pronounced 'quiche'.'' ---- Thanks Gg - I love you

Dom 9/11

After all this running around, I had to take it easy on Sunday. I went to Utrecht to meet up with my dear friend Mascha. We saw the Dom, that celebrates it's 750th birthday this year. In 1674 a huge storm blew away the mid-ship, which was never rebuild. Until this summer... That is: they have temporarily connected the famous Dom Tower (the largest church tower of the country) with what is left of the church using scaffold pipes. It gives you some idea of how huge this cathedral once was.


In the evening we went to see Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11'. What can I say? Because my very first visit to New York City was in the week of that bizarre and dreadfull day in September 2001 and because this city is in my heart each day ever since, I had to see Moore's pamphlet. But we all know Michael Moore.... I share his points of view most of the time, but the ways he puts them on stage are hilarious at best, but mostly just ridiculous. And to be honest: just as dangerously manipulative as the big US networks he critisizes so much... By the way, I'm going back to NYC this September. I'm very much looking foreward to that.
 

Running around

Last week was a week of walking. It started all on Thursday when I was travelling by train from Amsterdam to Haarlem and I decided to get out of the train at Sloterdijk and walk the rest home. That was a three hour walk. Man, I was tired. Still, on Friday and Saturday I took Michele's dog Joy out for a walk. Both days we walked for like four or five hours! But we had great fun, Joy and I. Running around, jumping into ditches, chasing ducks. Unfortunately we don't have any pictures of me running around with a tree-branch. Joy is not a very good photographer, that's why....
 

51st Wedding-Anniversary!

Fifty-one years, that's a heck of a time. Well, today my parents are celebrating that they have shared these 51 years together in marriage! Good hey? Me, my brother and my sister-in-law are having a nice dinner with them tonight. And I keep thinking: 51 years - me, still not married, will never reach that milestone...
